Broiled Green Beans with butter, soy sauce, and walnuts
Bubba Durand

1 pound green beans, snapped, washed, and dried
1 T vegetable oil, Olive oil, or Walnut oil
Salt & pepper
2 T butter
2 t soy sauce
1/4 C chopped walnuts

Melt the butter in a small skillet.
Stir in the walnuts and soy sauce and remove from the heat.

Put your oven rack on the second-to-top location and preheat the oven to broil.
Line a sheet pan with non-stick foil.

In a large bowl, toss the green beans with oil and season with salt and pepper.
Go easy on the salt, because you'll also be adding soy sauce.
Arrange the green beans in a single layer on the foil-lined sheet pan.
Broil until beans are blistered and very lightly charred. This only takes a couple of minutes, so don't walk away!
Use a spatula to stir and flip the beans, then broil again the same way.
Remove the pan from the oven and push all the green beans together in the middle, so they're touching, but not piled on top of each other.
Rewarm the butter/soy sauce/walnut mixture and drizzle it over the GBs.

You can set the whole thing aside at this point if you want to.

Just before serving, pop the whole thing under the broiler again for a couple of minutes to toast the walnuts and reheat the green beans. Serve immediately.
